Smokeless moxa buyer guide: clinics, private-label brands and importers
How professional buyers source smokeless moxa sticks and cones: supply paths, verifying manufacturers, the specification and QC checks that real complaints point to, what a 'smokeless' claim needs under ISO 21366, and customs pointers.
This guide gives a framework and links to Moxa Sourcing’s detailed buying guides. It does not name or rank suppliers, and it makes no claims about any manufacturer’s capacity or certificates.
Where can I buy smokeless moxa wholesale?
Three paths appear in AI answers and search results for this question [1]:
| Path | Suits | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Acupuncture supply distributors | Clinics buying smaller volumes | Practitioner pricing on established brands such as Longevity, Hoist/Huasun and Vitality, plus charcoal cones [1] |
| B2B marketplaces | Price discovery, mixed suppliers | Listings mix factories and trading companies; verification is the buyer’s job |
| Direct from manufacturers or through a sourcing partner | Private label, larger or recurring orders | Requires a written spec, samples and quality agreement. See OEM smokeless moxa sticks and the wholesale guide |
Who manufactures smokeless moxa? How do I verify a supplier?
- Where moxa comes from. Production of Artemisia argyi is concentrated in China. One review reports that Nanyang (Henan) supplies about 85% of national raw material output [2]. See China’s mugwort production clusters.
- Search wording matters. “Moxa manufacturer” returns results for Moxa Inc., a networking hardware company [1]. Use “moxa stick manufacturer” or “smokeless moxa roll manufacturer”.
- Do not trust AI-generated supplier lists. In our tests, a general AI assistant named manufacturers we could not verify [1]. Verify any supplier through samples, documents and factory evidence. See How to evaluate a mugwort export supplier and Evidence a sourcing partner should show.
What should a smokeless moxa specification and QC plan cover?
The complaints consumers post online are a good checklist for professional QC [3][4][5]:
| Real-world problem | Spec / QC item |
|---|---|
| Won’t light, goes out when flame is removed | Ignition time and self-sustaining burn in open air, tested on coded samples [4][3] |
| “No heat”, “burns out too quickly” | Diameter, length, density and stated burn time per stick [3][6] |
| Sparks, crumbling, ash falling | No sparking; ash integrity; tap test [4] |
| Smoke and smell complaints | Smoke density and, if claimed, ISO 21366 testing [5][7] |
| Broken in transit | Rigid packaging; drop test (ISO 2248 is referenced by ISO 21366) [5][3] |
| Undeclared herbs (“pure moxa” with motherwort) | Full ingredient declaration; change control on formulation [3][8] |
| Hand end too hot | Holder compatibility and instructions [3][9] |

Can a product be labelled “smokeless”? Is there a standard?
ISO 21366:2026, second edition, sets general requirements for combustion-type smokeless moxibustion devices [10]. According to a published summary [5]:
- Claim condition. The smokeless statement is reserved for products that conform to the smoke-density test (Annex B, optical density ≤ 50 ± 5) and the smoke-generation test (Annex C, smoke alarms triggered by fewer than 10% of products).
- Gases. CO and NO₂ are measured by ISO 15011-2, total VOCs by ISO 16000-6 and aldehydes by ISO 16000-4, benchmarked against WHO indoor-air guidelines.
- Temperature and materials. These follow ISO 18666:2021.
- Packaging and labelling. These follow ISO 18666, and the package must protect the product, with more than 90% surviving an ISO 2248 drop test.
The second edition tightened the smoke-density limit for the smokeless statement from 200 to 50 [10]. ISO/TS 25198:2026 explains how to prepare samples of different shapes for the smoke-density test [11]. ISO standards are voluntary and the full texts are sold by ISO. Buyers who need conformity should request test reports that name the standard edition.
Note also that ISO/TS 6818 (moxa floss quality) excludes carbonized moxa floss, so a 6818 report does not describe a charcoal stick’s material [12].
Customs, HS codes and market rules
Tariff classification and product rules depend on composition and the importing country. We do not state an HS code here. Ask a customs broker. For the US, see Importing moxa into the US: FDA, customs and labelling.

FAQ: related questions
Where can I buy smokeless moxa wholesale?
Professional buyers use three paths: acupuncture supply distributors for smaller clinic volumes, B2B marketplaces, and direct sourcing from manufacturers (directly or through a sourcing partner) for private label and larger orders. Each path needs sample testing and a written specification before bulk orders.
Who manufactures smokeless moxa sticks?
Most moxa is made in China, where mugwort production is concentrated in regions such as Nanyang (Henan). Search for 'moxa stick manufacturer' rather than 'moxa manufacturer', which returns the unrelated networking company Moxa Inc., and verify any supplier through samples, documents and factory evidence.
Can I label a product smokeless?
Under ISO 21366:2026, the statement 'smokeless' should be used only for products that pass its smoke-density and smoke-generation tests and meet its gas, temperature, material and packaging requirements. ISO standards are voluntary, but they give buyers a defined basis for the claim.
What is the HS code for moxa sticks?
Tariff classification depends on composition and the importing country's rules. Confirm with a customs broker; Moxa Sourcing's US import guide covers FDA, customs and labelling questions.
